Tryouts

Annual tryouts in May — free to register and open to all Fairfield residents.

Overview

Tryouts are free to register and open to all Fairfield residents. They are held annually in May, with roster placements communicated to families by mid-June. Pre-registration is required — no walk-ups.

How to Register

  1. 1 Create or log in to your PlayMetrics account (opens in new tab).
  2. 2 Register your player for tryouts (free).
  3. 3 Indicate if your player is a goalkeeper.

Goalkeepers: Must attend both the dedicated goalkeeper session and Tryout #2. Indicate GK interest in step 3 above so we can plan accordingly.

Day-Of Instructions

Arrive 10 minutes early

Check in and get warmed up before your session starts.

What to bring

Ball, water bottle, shin guards, and cleats.

Drop off or stay in your vehicle

Players must be unobserved by parents during evaluations to ensure fair assessments.

Weather cancellations

Cancellations are communicated by email as early as possible.

How Team Placement Works

Existing players are assessed at the start and end of each season. New players are evaluated at tryouts. Parents leave the field during all evaluations.

U8

Balanced teams, no tiers

All U8 teams are formed for equal development. Competitive tiering begins at U9.

U9–U15

Tiered by level — Black · Red · White · Blue

Roster caps: 12–13 players for U9–U11, 18–20 for U13+.

Playing up: The top ~10% of an age group may be considered for moving up. Exceptions apply for U8 and strategic roster needs.

Leagues: U8–U11 play in the CJSA Travel League. U12–U15 top tier compete in the CJSA top bracket; others in the CJSA Travel League.
